This is the cover panel that hides the bolts holding the modified motherboard tray into place. The aluminum brackets are custom made from 1" wide flat stock, bent in a vice, drilled, and brused by hand. The 'mdportal' logo was cut using a scroll saw and touched up using a rotary tool. I created a jig for my angle grinder that allowed me to preciscely grind the edges of the panel creating a perfectly circular shape.
This image shows the drive mounting bays and the motherboard tray harvested from the 286. All of the bays are designed to hold 3 and one half inch drives mounted in hot swap bays. The wingunts in combination with a pair of bolts clamp the original motherboard tray to the sidewall of the chassis. This provides a little more rigidity and aleviates rattling and buzzing.
